You will also study the play La casa de Bernarda Alba and the film El Laberinto del Fauno, developing your ability to analyse and write critically about Spanish-language culture.

Progression

Spanish can open the door to a wide range of university courses and careers where language ability, communication and international awareness are highly valued.

You could progress into languages, education and communication, with careers including Spanish teaching, translation, interpreting, language support, international relations, journalism, content creation and communications.

There are also opportunities within international business, travel and tourism, including international business management, marketing, travel consultancy, tourism, aviation, hospitality, events and sales.

At university, Spanish can also support progression into subjects including Modern Languages, International Relations, Business, Law, Journalism, Tourism and Teaching.

Assessment

You will complete three examinations:

Paper 1 – Listening, Reading and Translation – 50%
You will demonstrate your ability to understand spoken and written Spanish and translate accurately.

Paper 2 – Essay Writing – 20%
You will demonstrate your analytical and written language skills through essay writing.

Paper 3 – Speaking – 30%
You will demonstrate your ability to communicate confidently and effectively in spoken Spanish.

Entry Requirements

A combination of 5 Grade 4’s and 5’s or above at GCSE (including maths and English). * One Vocational Qualification in a related subject area will be considered in place of a GCSE. Subject Specific Entry Requirements: GCSE Spanish at Grade 6 and GCSE English Language at Grade 5.
