Outline

The course combines Core Pure Mathematics with two optional papers, allowing you to develop advanced mathematical knowledge while specialising in areas that support your future progression.

Core Pure Mathematics

Extend your knowledge and understanding of:

  • Algebra
  • Complex numbers
  • Matrices
  • Proof
  • Calculus
  • Differential equations
  • Vectors

Optional Papers

You will study two optional papers chosen from:

  • Further Pure Mathematics
  • Further Statistics
  • Further Mechanics
  • Decision Mathematics

This structure allows you to specialise in areas that support your progression pathway, whether that is engineering, physics, computing, economics or mathematics itself.

Enrichment opportunities

You will have access to high-quality enrichment opportunities designed to take your mathematical learning beyond the classroom.

These include:

  • External mathematics competitions
  • MEI workshops
  • Guest lectures from the University of Oxford

These opportunities allow you to challenge yourself further and experience mathematics beyond the A-Level curriculum.

Further Mathematics provides a strong foundation for progression to mathematically demanding university courses and careers across finance, technology, engineering and science.

Assessment

The course is assessed through four written examinations.

Examinations

You will complete four written examinations at the end of the two-year course.

These examinations will allow you to demonstrate the advanced mathematical skills developed throughout your studies, including problem-solving, abstract reasoning, mathematical proof, modelling and analysis.

Entry Requirements

Students will need a minimum of five grade 5’s or above, including English Language and a grade 7 in Mathematics.
